Innovating ways to migrate corporate content WITH your customers

BOH learned that building with your customers versus building for your customers lends to greater user adoption and even organizational change.

In our SharePoint world today, the scope of features – native, custom, third-party – is almost limitless.  You know how exciting SharePoint is and the power it can wield – so why would you turn it over to business units that are unsure where the “ANY” key is on the keyboard?  As Bank of Hawaii approached migration to SharePoint, executives wanted to understand the vision: Is this a backend tool that requires a full development shop, or could this become a powerful process efficiency enabler by providing the employees the ability to streamline their processes?  The goal of this presentation is to share those lessons learned and the value gained by working with the users, adopting a “Power User” strategy, rather than for the users as BOH began to migrate users to SharePoint.  We will compare the pros and cons with the approach and highlight the successes BOH experienced while sharing some key insights to consider with any SharePoint migration, regardless of version or business solution

Building Faceted Navigation with SharePoint 2013

A well-designed navigation tells your site's users a lot about the business, products, and services that the website offers. With SharePoint 2013, Microsoft finally delivers on a critical business need: the taxonomy-driven managed navigation and the native support for Search Engine Optimization. In this session, I will show you what the new Faceted Navigation capabilities are, how they work and how you can benefit of them when building your sites and keeping up with change without having to recreate the site navigation in the process. You will learn everything you need to design site navigation that is driven by managed metadata and create SEO-friendly URLs that are derived from the managed navigation structure.
